I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed the intensive weekend! That sounds horrible but uni on a saturday isn’t great, but I was very very happy with the work we got done. We did a take on vagina monologues but did it about school. We picked this because we knew that our audience would be able to relate to a lot of the things we were talking about and therefore would laugh at them. When we showed the working progress to Rob we got really helpful feedback that I think made the piece as a whole flow better and it wasn’t just one person talking then another etc but that we were all involved in each others stories, much more interesting to watch. It sounded like the audience enjoyed it and it was a shame we didnt get to perform it in front of everyone but in a way I quite liked doing it in the room we had been rehearsing in all day, made it seem more relaxed and I didnt get as nervous as I normally would had it been on stage.
I think that we did well in the weekend, however after we watched previous performances I was worried, they completely threw me. All the ideas I had for the weekend were nothing like the previous performances and just didnt work at all. I’m glad we watched them though because it showed other peoples takes on cabaret.
I would like to explore Cabaret more, probably the musical/dance/vaudeville more as, If I’m honest, dont feel like I have learnt anything on that side and that (plus comedy) is the side that I want to develop most on as a performer and dont really feel like I have.
